Different Types of Collars
Similar to any pet-products purchase you make, your satisfaction will depend on the size and breed of your dog. Below, we have provided a list so you can make an educated decision, regardless of whether you’re lover of petite or large dogs.
Slip-on Tag
This collar has no buckle. It slips over your dog’s head but has no smaller loop to tighten when attached to the leash. Instead, it comes with a d-ring that attaches tags to two slides. One slide adjusts for size and one lies where the buckle would be.
Tag collars are most appropriate for a dog that wears a harness and only uses a martingale for training while walking. In addition, since there is no buckle, the collar offers your dog more comfort. Also, because these collars can be any width, they’re lightweight and compatible with a harness. This lightweight means your dog can wear the tag collar while simply hanging around with you at home.
Quick Snap Buckle or Quick Release Buckle
This collar has a quick release buckle that enables you to attach or remove the collar quickly. This style works best for dogs with larger skulls. Variations of quick snap buckle collars come in plastic and metal materials.
Plastic collar buckle: The traditional quick-release or side-release collar has a plastic buckle. The collar is made of nylon webbing and has a d-ring. You can attach tags, and a nickel-plated slide enables you to adjust the size to correlate with your dog’s size.
Metal collar buckle: This collar has the same quick release as the plastic buckle; however, the buckle is made of metal, i.e., aluminum or steel.
